2025 Winter Segment Hunt

A Runner’s Scavenger Hunt
February 10th - 16th, 2025

Built around teamwork and wits rather than speed, the Winter Segment Hunt is a free winter running game meant to bring the running community together in a time of the year when many would rather stay inside and hit the treadmill alone.

How does the Winter Segment Hunt work?

Each day a clue will be sent to participants leading them to a QR code hidden around Minneapolis/Saint Paul. Clues take the form of various types of puzzles and riddles. The QR code reveals a Strava segment that must be run in order to score points. Participants are split into teams so they can work together to solve the clues and find the segments.

While the segment can be run any time after the clue is revealed, bonus points will be given based on running the segment on the first day and the number of participants completing the segment.

Team bonus activities will also be offered to earn even more points!

When will the Winter Segment Hunt take place?

The hunt will start Monday, February 10th and run until Sunday, February 16th – concluding in a celebratory after party for all participants and friends. 7 days, 7 clues.

Is there a cost?

No, the Winter Segment Hunt is free to participate in but we ask before you sign up that you verify you're available February 10th through February 16th.

What are the requirements of the participants?

We’ve tried to design the contest to be as inclusive as possible, but we advise that runners be comfortable running at least 15-20 miles a week with and with one 7-10 mile run. Each segment is pretty short but there is a short distance between the QR code and the segment (no more than a mile). We have also made sure each segment is near an enjoyable running route so the contest can be easily worked into folks’ normal running plans.

Each participant must have a public Strava account in order to participate. We also ask you to be available the entire week to participate as teams are counting on all members working together.
